Desert

Joshua Tree National Park by John Lazo

Near the end of February, my sister and I spent a weekend camping in Joshua Tree National Park. The weekend had excellent weather (lows in the upper 30s and highs in the low 60s). It was genuinely refreshing to be outside, camping in the desert. Some of my favorite images from the weekend are below. The pictures were created using a Canon EOS R5 with a 15-35mm or 70-200mm lens, and edited in Adobe Lightroom Classic.

Over spring break I camped in Death Valley National Park for four nights. The park was one of the largest I’ve been to (only Yellowstone was comparable in size). It was great to get outside and explore the desert. I even experienced some snowfall at the higher elevations, which was pretty incredible. Below are some of my favorite photos from the trip. All the pictures were made on a Canon R5 using either an RF 15-35mm lens or an EF 70-200 mm lens. These were all edited in Adobe Lightroom Classic.

At the start of the new year I camped in Joshua Tree National Park for a few days with my girlfriend. It was chilly, especially with the wind, but great to be outside and enjoy nature. I recently purchased the Canon RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM lens, so it was an awesome opportunity to experiment with it. I was particularly impressed with its detail in the middle ground, especially at f/11.
